Kids Fishing Tournaments Winners Recognized

Rep. Joe Sosnowski, our representative from the Illinois 69th district, was recently reading the CWL newspaper and noticed in the Leisure Section of the July edition that a number of children had participated in the Annual Father’s Day Kids Fishing Tournament hosted by the Candlewick Anglers. Rep. Sosnowski then took it upon himself, with the aid of his staff, to have certificates issued by the Illinois House of Representatives commemorating each of the winners for their effort, dedication and hard work. He then e-mailed a board member and asked permission to have these dropped off at the office.

Following a couple phone calls and e-mails it was decided to ask the Representative, or his aide, to present the certificates to the children at the regular Board of Directors meeting on Tuesday, August 20. This past Tuesday Rep. Sosnowski kindly accepted the offer with thanks to the community.

Each of the winners and their families are invited and encouraged to attend this meeting, which begins at 6:30 pm, meet their representative and be recognized. It is not often that a politician takes notice of something as seemingly mundane as a kids fishing tournament and then takes initiative to recognize these same children. It is less often that the youth of America get to see our government do something so positive without being asked. I hope this small act remains in the memory of these children for many years to come and that they enjoyed a morning of fishing with their father, grandfather or uncle. Many times it is the small things in life which bring the most memorable rewards and this appears to be one of those times.

(Although she didn't use her name in this story, I think it should be mentioned that Bonnie was the one that spearheaded this presentation at the board meeting as well as providing the information to the representative. Very commendable.  Ken)
