Planned for September

Some of our roads will be coated with MicroSeal in September. The application will lengthen the life of those roads. The downside is they can not be driven on for two hours after the application. This will be an inconvenience for those living on the affected streets. It is like having your driveway sealed so there will need to be planning ahead for those residences pretty much trapped in or out for the two hours. It will pay off in the long run but yes, it will be an inconvenience. Just hang in there for a couple hours and your street will look great.
I am not sure which streets are in the plan at this time but there will be plenty of notice before this starts.

Humor from the Marron clan.

Donald and Hillary Go Into A Bakery on the Campaign Trail.

As soon as they enter the bakery, Hillary steals three pastries and puts them in her pocket.

She says to Donald, "See how clever I am? The owner didn't see anything and I don't even need to lie.

I will definitely win the election."

The Donald says to Hillary, "That's the typical dishonesty you have displayed throughout your life.

I am going to show you an honest way to get the same result."

Donald goes to the owner of the bakery and says, "Give me a pastry and I will show you a magic trick.

Intrigued, the owner accepts and gives him a pastry. Trump swallows it and asks for another one.

The owner gives him another one. Then Donald asks for a third pastry and  eats that,  too.

The owner is starting to wonder where the magic trick is and  asks, "What did you do with the pastries?"

Trump replies, "Look in Hillary's pocket"...

Just a little "Hitch in the getalong!" as they say

ROAD PLAN REVISION

First Responders appreciation day and Community Picnic.

I stopped by about one and there were not many residents there but I understand it was busier later with almost 60 people getting free boat rides so that is a good thing. A lot of work and planning went into this event. It was nice to talk with some of the first responders while I was there. Quite a few of them showed up as you can see by some of the vehicles in the picture.

A Sunday consideration from Joyce Meyer

Battles are fought in our minds every day. When we begin to feel the battle is just too difficult and want to give up, we must choose to resist negative thoughts and be determined to rise above our problems. We must decide that we’re not going to quit. When we’re bombarded with doubts and fears, we must take a stand and say: “I’ll never give up! God’s on my side. He loves me, and He’s helping me! I’m going to make it!- Joyce Meyer

Spoke with Maintenance

Our skimmer was taken back to the factory Monday to have the heavy duty conveyor belt installed. There have been problems with the lighter belt on other machines so we are far from alone.
It was on the lake Wednesday and the report is it runs a lot smoother, just a stronger system. Let's hope this actually takes care of the problem and the constant down time comes to an end.

Common sense for a change!

A judge struck a blow for common sense and against the Obama administration.
A federal judge sitting in Fort Worth, Texas, blocked the Obama administration’s mandate requiring public schools to allow students to use restroom and locker facilities that conform to whatever sex they identify with — whether or not it’s the sex of their birth.
U.S. District Judge Reed O’Connor ruled Sunday in favor of Texas and 12 other states that argued that the mandate threatened the privacy and safety of students and usurped local control, according to Bloomberg Politics.
However, O’Connor based his decision on the administration’s failure to follow federal rule-making procedures.
“This case presents the difficult issue of balancing the protection of students’ rights and that of personal privacy when using school bathrooms, locker rooms, showers, and other intimate facilities, while ensuring that no student is unnecessarily marginalized while attending school,” O’Connor wrote in his decision. “The resolution of this difficult policy issue is not, however, the subject of this order.”

For those of you

who actually have had some staining from the iron in your water recently, we used to go to a cabin in Northern Wisconsin that had water with so much iron it was actually red. The stool had to be cleaned constantly due to staining and a product that worked shockingly well was called "THE WORKS." It took the stain right off.
Do remember this was from porcelain. Be sure to read the label for other surfaces.

Glad I am not trying to sell my home

I walked in for an eye exam today and they asked my address. The next question.... what about your water out there? The tub full looked yellow. What are you going to do????
Be sure to thank those who called the media when you have problems selling your home. The impression is now out there and it will stick. Our water is back to normal and most had no water problems at all, but that isn't the story.

The skimmer... what is it now!!!!

A new belt was recently installed and it is already starting to shred so it is being taken to the manufacturer to install a heavy duty belt. A couple of our guys will watch it being installed to be sure we are making no installation errors. Until this is accomplished we will have only spraying as the alternative as we have had in past years.
If we put enough new parts on this thing we should have a brand new machine! Irritating, but we all want this thing to continue the job it has been doing and this is what it takes.

Dale Mediema humor... or is it humor?

: The Doctor We All Want

NEW PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIAN
 Love this Doctor!

Q: Doctor, I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life. Is this true?

A: Heart only good for so many beats, and that it... Don't waste on exercise. Everything wear out eventually. Speeding up heart not make you live longer; it like saying you extend life of car by driving faster. Want to live longer? Take nap.

Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake?

A: Oh no. Wine made from fruit. Brandy distilled wine, that mean they take water out of fruity bit so you get even more of goodness that way. Beer also made of grain. Bottom up!

Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?

A: Well, if you have body and you have fat, your ratio one to one. If you have two body, your ratio two to one.

Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program?

A: Can't think of single one, sorry. My philosophy: No pain...good!

Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you?

A: YOU NOT LISTENING! Food fried in vegetable oil. How getting more vegetable be bad?

Q
: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle?
A: Oh no! When you exercise muscle, it get bigger. You should only be doing sit-up if you want bigger stomach.

Q: Is chocolate bad for me?

A: You crazy?!? HEL-LO-O!! Cocoa bean! Another vegetable! It best feel-good food around!

Q: Is swimming good for your figure?

A: If swimming good for figure, explain whale to me.

Q: Is getting in shape important for my lifestyle?

A: Hey! 'Round' is shape!

Well... I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and diets.

And remember:
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!"

AND.....

For those of you who watch what you eat, here's the final word on nutrition and health. It's a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting nutritional studies.

1. The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

3. The Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

4. The Italians drink a lot of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans...

5. The Germans drink a lot of beer and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

CONCLUSION:

Eat and drink what you like.  Speaking English is apparently what kills you.

I have to compliment you

I was so proud of the attendees of Tuesday's Board meeting. The night before at the AQUA open house we looked like a bunch of nutcases with the poor behavior. Our board meeting was exactly the opposite. The media got to see us as we really are, a community with disagreements that can be expressed civilly and without disruption. I want to personally thank all of you who attended and those who chose to speak. You represented us well. Not what the media wanted to see but who we really are.

Board meeting notes... August 16, 2016

Open forum for property owners featured Rich DeVries extolling the positives of living in Candlewick. Tara Carter wuld like chikd care during meetings so more can come. Bruce Buck feels we need a better communication system for alerts.

The AQUA update and P.O. input... Joel (from Aqua) gave a timeline of events causing and remediating the pump failure, switch, and iron in the water. The main pump is now back online so things should get back to normal. I hope most readers made it to the meeting because there was a lot of back and forth between the board, AQUA representitives, and property owners during the open Q&A period. It is impossible to document most of that here but you can watch it online through the Candlewick site when posted if you wish.

Finance Commission reports bad debt write offs in the amount of $59.74. Accounting adjustments total $369.52.
Our standing at the end of July is Operating Cash of $1,738,476.75, Operating Investments of $330,870.17, Reserve Investments $3,614,281.26. Total Investments $3,945,151.33 and Total Cash of $5,683,628.08.
We are currently under budgeted expense by $34,059.58 and over revenue budget $42,268.66, meaning we are to the goodby $76,328.24 fiscal year to date. Now let's see if the media reports our solid financial status or if as I expect they only want to publish anything negative they can find about Candlewick.

Public Safety welcomes Mark Zellman as a new member. Bev Gaddis has decided to step down from the commission. Neighborhood watch has had no activity for years and it was voted to remove it from the monthly agenda. E-blasts and the Candlewick Facebook page have replaced the watch effectively.

Lake Management asks that $1,500 be removed from fish stocking and added to operating capital to fund a 16 foot extension to the fishing dock under the willow tree. Granted. Lake water clarity is at seven feet at the last reading. The fish shocking report was reviewed and to sum it up we have a fine fishery.

Events reports the Community Picnic will be August 28th with boat rides, volleyball, bocci ball, and bags to play plus a D.J. The Boone County Shopper will have an ad for our September garage sales. There will be no craft/vendor event this year. October fifteenth the Chili Cook-off is planned with a D.J., Dandy Donuts supplying the food.

The Rec Commission mentions Yoga has five attendees, Aqua Zumba six, Swin lessons twenty, Summer Camp five to eleven, Karate nine to twelve, Pickleball two to nine, Aquacise about twenty five. Bunco had twenty six people. Bocce Ball is not performing. The pool inspector says the pool looks the best it has in years. New benches are being installed in parks as a yearly as needed project. Tetherball is installed and is popular.

The Outpost planning is moving ahead with the selected architect working on the specifics for bidding.

Savannah Oaks reports there have been problems with the solenoids sticking, causing over and under watering. They are being replaced and although this is not an expensive undertaking it is time consuming. Fungicides are being sprayed weekly and there have been no disease issues. The course is in good shape.

Savannah Oaks clubhouse reports the youth tournament was a big success. The Vino Van Gogh also went over well with 28 painters. Consideration is being given to hosting another this year. Pub Trivia is still going strong. A D.J. Will be at the clubhouse August 27th at 8 p.m. September 3 will feature a Night Golf event as well as Pub Trivia.
Savannah Oaks is closing the gap with last year's numbers. Year over year is now only showing a negative $819.00. Hopefully that will be overcome by the next report.

The Golf Commission indicates they would like to see $30,000 per year budgeted to start paving the golf paths in sections yearly. A possible driving range is being discussed. King of the Course is planned for October 8th. They would like to have budgeted a roll out awning for the patio, a large tent for events, and $3,000 to purchase two driving range cages.

Communications asked the board to allow Google Maps access in
Candlewick to map the streets. Granted. &&&&&& All three ad slots for the Northwest Herald ad have been sold.

The Roads commission reports mid September will feature the micro-seal on selected roads. This will involve short term closings to facilitate set up of the surfacing material.

A resolution was passed awarding a contract to Bel Rock to handle the 2 inch paving overlay from the speed hump below the dam to the Rec Center.

During our last board meeting two mowing contractors asked if we could be more specific in the rules regarding mowing expectations. Your board had the first reading of a new more inclusive set of mowing rules so there will hopefully be no misunderstandings.

Be sure to watch for official minutes printed in your Candlewick Paper.

The AQUA meeting

We had a short Finance Commission meeting Monday night so I was able to make it to the AQUA meeting as it started. There was a strong turnout. A presentation was made detailing plans to drill another 2000 foot well that will be hooked up to the filtering unit (which is huge) so if we were to have another incident taking the main pump offline the water quality will remain as it was with the other pump operating.
The presentation deteriorated to a lot of people yelling questions that many of us could not hear. At 6:30 I left, seeing not much more would be accomplished. At least I know more now about the new back-up plans, their testing procedure, and the like. I wish the crowd would have been quieter so I could have heard more but it is what it is.
Unfortunately Channel 17 was there to document the unruly crowd.

Despite promises of European Union member states to take in 160,000 refugees, a new report shows that they've accepted a fraction, 6,000, while the United States has embraced 8,000 of a planned 10,000 this year.
As President Obama, backed by Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, has ramped up accepting refugees fleeing Syria and other war-torn nations, the EU has put the brakes on hard, apparently bowing to public outrage.
In the U.S., some governors and other politicians have warned against moving fast to bring in the refugees, concerned that poor vetting could let in terrorists.

After officials moved to stem the huge influx if immigrants, Europe had led the way in making promises to accept the additional refugees in camps in Italy and Greece. But a new report in France found that Paris had accepted just 1,300 of the 30,000 it promised to take from Greece and Italy by 2017.

Weekly Public Safety Report, a slow week and that is a good thing!

Back on line!

AQUA has us back on the main pump and all tests have passed. The system is being flushed at this time so all should be back to normal quickly.

In case you didn't know.

I think these will be fun to watch, as well as informative. Ken

Sonny's Helpful Harvester Hints (skimmer)

Weed Harvester: How it works and how you can help.

The weed harvester is a tool to help control the weeds and algae in the lake. It is not a piece of equipment that will eliminate the weed and algae problem entirely. There are some simple things everyone can do to help maximize the production of this piece of equipment.

1.    CLEAN YOUR SHORES.
As everyone is aware the first several feet off your shore is considered your property as a lake side property owner. Taking care of your shore line will not only help production but will help the lakes weed problem as we all see is present.

2.     ALLOW OPERATER TO OPERATE.
Although everyone would like to talk to the operator of the weed harvester, if the operator was to take a simple 5 minutes to talk to ever resident there would never be anytime for production.

3.     UNDERSTAND THAT THE HARVESTER CAN NOT GET TO EVERY SHORE.
Although the harvester appears to get closer to some shores than others. Realize that all operations are based on not only depth, but the material on the bottom of the shore and wind conditions.

4.    STAY OFF DOCKS
The weed harvester is a dangerous piece of equipment. Operation will not be permitted around docks if persons are standing on them due to safety concerns. Every aspect of this equipment is run by hydraulics. Hydraulics have an enormous amount of force and pressure. It is an unsafe risk to operate around residents.

5. UNDERSTAND THAT ITS ALL OF OUR JOB.
If the harvester worked every dock the amount of time it would take would far surpass the hours in the day. The coves and bays are the biggest concern and working the docks neglects the other portions of the lake. Although docks will be cleaned from time to time, not everyone can or will be hit on any given day.

6. PATIENCE.
No one enjoys the weeds; the weed harvester is a tool to help control the weed problem.  Remember, with improved water clarity, we anticipate more weeds.

As of mid July the lake has not had a blue green bloom. The lake is being worked on as much as possible. If the harvester was to operate docks every day it would not be able to keep up on the other portions of the lake. Every resident has a right to the lake. Cleaning only one shore is not fair to another. By focusing on the main parts of the lake and allowing the operator to clean what docks may be the worst. He will be able to have the best chance to help the community continue to have a healthy lake.
Running only docks was tested for one day in early July. The operator worked through lunch working a total of 8.5 hours. That day the 1200 block was the worst. In that large amount of time he was only able to take care of the docks in the 1200 block.  The Dip, Fisherman’s Cove, or any other part of the lake were not touched. The next day the weeds were back once again. The time consuming effort was only rewarded for less than 24 hours. As you might be frustrated with the weeds please understand that everything that can be done is being done.
There are many variables when operating the harvester. This piece of equipment was designed to operate in low winds, it is a flat bottom boat with paddles. Running the harvester in high winds is not only dangerous but can also cause damage to docks or boats if it were to blow into them. Depth also dictates the areas it may go. Running this equipment in to shallow of water causes extreme wear and tear on the equipment.  As the harvester continues to collect algae and weeds, it becomes heavier which then requires more depth to operate.

Please consider this an informational tool for the residents. This article is intended to educate you on the operations of the harvester.   Thank you.

Did all of you know about this?

If you wish to be notified of AQUA current information the post below will show you how to get to the site to sign up for any alerts from AQUA. Few have signed up for this service. The same information is on your water bills.

Food for thought from Dale Mediema

You are allowed to be shocked or stunned,

                            but just pass it on.

DO NOT ADD A SINGLE WORD

Yes, he told us in advance what he planned to do.
Few were listening.

The following is a narrative taken from a 2008 Sunday morning televised "Meet The Press'. From Sunday's 07 Sept. 2008 11:48:04 EST, Televised
"Meet the Press" THE THEN Senator Obama was asked about his stance on the American Flag.

General Bill Gann' USAF (ret.) asked Obama to explain WHY he doesn't follow protocol when the National Anthem is played.

The General stated to Obama that according to the United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec.
171... During rendition of the national anthem, when the flag
is displayed, all present (except those in uniform) are expected to stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. Or, at the very least, "Stand and Face It".

Senator Obama replied :
"As I've said about the flag pin, I don't want to be perceived as taking sides." "There are a lot of people in the world to whom the American flag is a symbol of oppression..." "The anthem itself conveys a war-like message. You know, the bombs bursting in air

and all that sort of thing."

Obama continued: "The National Anthem should be 'swapped' for something less parochial and less bellicose. I like the song 'I'd Like To Teach the World To Sing'. If that were our anthem, then, I might salute it. In my opinion, we should consider reinventing our National Anthem as well as 'redesign' our Flag to better offer our enemies hope and love. It's my intention, if elected, to disarm America to the level of acceptance to our Middle East Brethren. If we, as a Nation of warring people, conduct ourselves like the nations of Islam, where peace prevails - - - perhaps a state or period of mutual accord could exist between our governments ...."

When I Become President, I will seek a pact of agreement to end hostilities between those who have been at war or in a state of enmity, and a freedom from disquieting oppressive thoughts. We as a Nation, have placed upon the nations of Islam, an unfair injustice which is WHY my wife disrespects the Flag and she and I have attended several flag burning ceremonies in the past".

"Of course now,I have found myself about to become The President of the   United States and I have put my hatred aside.I will use my power to bring CHANGE to this Nation, and offer the people a new path.

My wife and I look forward to becoming our Country's First black Family. Indeed, CHANGE is about to overwhelm the United States of America."

Yes, you read it right.

You tell me!

One of the pictures below is of Fishermen's Cove August 7, 2016. The other is from a month or so prior. Our skimmer has been down for new sprockets and roller for about a week and the inlets are looking like they did before we bought the skimmer. If you are having any doubts about the effect it is having on our lake this should be the proof. I will take the new look any time.

A Sunday thought from Larry Ohlendorf

Shirley & Marcy

A mother was concerned about her kindergarten son walking to school. He didn't want his mother to walk with him. She wanted to give him the feeling that he had some independence but yet know that he was safe.

So she had an idea of how to handle it. She asked a neighbor if she would please follow him to school in the mornings, staying at a distance, so he probably wouldn't notice her. She said that since she was up early with her toddler anyway, it would be a good way for them to get some exercise as well, so she agreed.

The next school day, the neighbor and her little girl set out following behind Timmy as he walked to school with another neighbor girl he knew. She did this for the whole week.

As the two kids walked and chatted, kicking stones and twigs, Timmy 's little friend noticed the same lady was following them as she seemed to do every day all week. Finally she said to Timmy, 'Have you noticed that lady following us to school all week? Do you know her?'

Timmy nonchalantly replied, 'Yeah, I know who she is.'

The little girl said, 'Well, who is she?'

'That's just Shirley Goodnest, 'Timmy replied, 'and her daughter Marcy.'

'Shirley Goodnest? Who is she and why is she following us?
'Well,' Timmy explained, 'every night my Mum makes me say the 23rd Psalm with my prayers, 'cuz she worries about me so much. And in the Psalm, it says, ' Shirley Goodnest and Marcy shall follow me all the days of my life', so I guess I'll just have to get used to it!'
The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious unto you; the Lord lift His countenance upon you, and give you peace.
