Paid my dues

I also bought a season guest pass and noticed we have stocked a new fish in our lake. It is called a Nothern. I hope I can land one this year.

How does the national media choose what is newsworthy?

This was a priest from India ( guess not important enough)

ISIS 'crucifies Catholic priest on Good Friday' after kidnapping him from old people's home where four nuns were shot dead

  • Father Tom Uzhunnalil was kidnapped by ISIS gunmen in Yemen
  • Terrorist had previously threatened to crucify the Indian Catholic priest
  • Reportedly carried out the threat on Good Friday, Austrian Cardinal claims

All we heard about was Brussels (I guess Christian women and children in Pakistan are not important)

And then there was the horrific Easter attack targeting Christians in Pakistan just yesterday: 70 dead, including 29 children enjoying the holiday in a public park in the provincial capital of Lahore. Pakistani Taliban’s Jamaat-up-Ahrar faction — which once declared its loyalty to ISIS, claimed responsibility and confirmed it was specifically targeting Christians on its most holy holiday.

Rescue Calls
Public Safety responded to three (3) rescue calls this past week. Two (2) subjects were transported to the hospital.

Illegal Entry
Public Safety responded to the East Gate for a delivery truck who had entered CWL without checking in. The driver of the truck was requested to turn around and be called in.  The truck continued into CWL, driving to a residence on Benedict Dr. to make a delivery. The BCSO was summoned to assist our Officers. The Deputy arrived promptly. Further investigation was able to rectify the problem. The delivery was made. The delivery truck was escorted out of CWL.

Unruly Resident
Public Safety was requested to assist Admin employees with a resident who desired to pay a fine with pennies. His C-Pass had been turned off. When he was told pennies could not be accepted, he became upset. BCSO Deputies needed to be summoned to assist in resolving this issue. The resident went to the bank and returned with an appropriate payment.

The meeting... and more

Our, or should I say your, annual members meeting went well with plenty of proxies and attendance of I would guess about fifty. Some good comments at the end by attendees so all in all a success. Thank you!

The live T.V. show "passion" on Fox Sunday night bombed from what I have read. I have to say I am glad. I am a Christian but I was completely turned off by the setting of New Orleans and the casting. Some subjects should not be played with or interpreted. My opinion only.

Karl is selling his pier

Karl Steiskal is getting a new pier so he is selling his old one. It consists of two 10 foot sections of pier, one is 4 feet wide and the other 3 feet wide. The frame is stainless steel. The planks are wood. The boards could use a coat of paint. The price is 99 cents or best offer. See it at 1626 Candlewick Dr. S.W. Call 815-765-5173 if interested. You haul it away.

Sunday thoughts on love

Ist Corinthians 4-8

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

From "The Tessessean" UNBELIEVABLE!

From the Washington Examiner

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has revealed that 124 illegal immigrant criminals released from jail by the Obama administration since 2010 have been subsequently charged with murder.
Center for Immigration Studies report on the data from ICE to the Senate Judiciary Committee added that the committee is not releasing the names of the murder suspects.
"The criminal aliens released by ICE in these years — who had already been convicted of thousands of crimes — are responsible for a significant crime spree in American communities, including 124 new homicides. Inexplicably, ICE is choosing to release some criminal aliens multiple times," said the report written by CIS's respected director of policy studies, Jessica M. Vaughan.
She added that 75 percent were released due to court orders or because their countries wouldn't take them back.
Her analysis is the latest shocking review of Obama's open-border immigration policy. And despite the high number of illegal immigrants charged with murder, the list doesn't include those released by over 300 so-called "sanctuary cities" and those ICE declined to take into custody.
She said that 124 criminal aliens released by ICE between 2010 and 2015 were charged with murder during that period and "associated with 250 different communities in the United States, with the most clustered in California, New York and Texas."
In a memo about the subsequent crimes of released illegals to Judiciary Committee Chairman Sen. Chuck Grassley, ICE said, "The aliens were charged with a total of 135 homicide-related crimes subsequent to release from ICE custody. As of July 25, 2015, a total of 39 convictions have resulted from these homicide-related charges. Of the 121 total aliens, 2 had homicide-related convictions prior to release from ICE custody."

Vaughan added that "ICE reported that there are 156 criminal aliens who were released at least twice by ICE since 2013. Between them, these criminals had 1,776 convictions before their first release in 2013, with burglary, larceny, and drug possession listed most frequently."

Same as I posted on Facebook

North Boone Fire ran one of the most intense campaigns I have witnessed. The referendum did not pass so now it is time for Capron to put forth the olive branch and work to complete an agreement for the fire department to be the first back up. There is no reason the two entities can not work together for the betterment of all they serve. We need the fire department and the CRS both so step up for us all.

Rich Witt made fun of me!

Rich called me this morning to see what had happened at the board meeting since I posted the December notes and the November financials. O.K., Rich, I am senile, I admit it.
Seriously though, I appreciate the call he made to alert me I had miss dated the post so I could correct it. All the other information is correct but for some reason I zoned out on the dates.

Personal Board meeting notes... March 15, 2016

Board meeting notes... March 15, 2016

The AQUA update... Joel (from Aqua) indicates the lift station project is scheduled to be in service my April with road resurfacing by the end of May.

Our employee of the year award was presented to Matthew Hein along with a check in the amount of $500.00. It was well deserved for his exemplary performance this year in our Maintenance Department.

Finance Commission reports write offs in the amount of $551.12. Accounting adjustments total $40.13.
Our standing at the end of February is Operating cash of $746,844.15, Operating investments of $439,312.93, Reserve investments $3,534,930.71. Total investments $3,974,243.64 and Total cash of $4,721,087.79.
We are currently under budgeted expense by $302,254.62 and over revenue budget $47,132.24, meaning we are to the goodby $349,386.86 fiscal year to date.

Public Safety reports the commission charter and officers remain the same. The end of April there will be a Gang awareness/drugs seminar held in the Lakeview room and another seminar is being planned for boat safety.

Lake Management reports there is a suggested change for Largemouth Bass limits for 2016, that being all catch and release. Approved by the board.
A group will be walking the creek leading into the "dip" looking for opportunities to limit undesirable infiltration. Algae is already forming in ditches and creeks and it will be treated. Egg addling starts April 4th and volunteers are needed. Fish shocking is scheduled for April 25 to assess our fish population and health. Remember Crappies can not be kept until June 1 to aid in the spawn.

Events reports Valentine Bingo brought in $129.00 in card sales. The Spring Craft show will probably be cancelled due to low participation. Fifty tickets were sold for Lunch with the Easter Bunny. All officers will remain the same next year.

The ECC discussed what actually constitutes a shed and will put together specifics to avoid confusion in that regard. Ron Drake resigned from the ECC and Darin Wheeler is the new chairman.

The Rec Commission mentions new tags for the 2016 dog park usage will be available May first. The biggest loser competition has twelve participants. The next Bunco night will by March 18th, the last one has 16 participants. The Scholastic Book Fair made $286.00. Polar Plunge will be April1 at 7 p.m. with participants being asked to bring a donation for the food pantry. Youth tennis will be offered in April.

Your golf course is scheduled to open April 8 weather permitting. Cleanup and course prep will be underway soon to be ready for the season.

The Outpost replacement meeting was held for property owners March 13. There was a heavy turnout with many ideas and questions. Too much input to post here.

The new Roads commission had a meeting and reports specs for bidding need to be reviewed before the next meeting. Written specs for shouldering need to be addressed. Much discussion revolved around a possible five year plan, finding shoulders in need of repair, paving methods, ditch work, crack sealing, and the AQUA lift station repairs.

Olson Ecological Services is to proceed with writing the conceptual plan for our continuing lake remediation projects at a cost not to exceed $5,000.00.

We have found it more feasible to outsource much of our mowing starting this year due to not only cost but our inability to pull in extra help and equipment as needed if weather puts us behind. We have contracted with for services with Area Services.

Wendler engineering will be contracted to do design work for three additional wiers as part of our ongoing lake project, tying in with the grant work we have been doing. The budgeted cost is $12,000.00. Your board determined this was an unnecessary expense at this time. (Weirs are measurement tools measuring the amount of inflow coming into our lake at different points. This is a simplified explanation of a complex structure.)

A property owner asked permission to hand out free snacks and water at Highland Valley Green during our garage sale along with information about their church. This was denied due to setting a precedent for other groups.

Discussion was held regarding the operation of programs, classes, punch cards, etc. at the Rec Center. It was decided a new punch card program will be initiated with a calendar year expiration and a financial incentive to purchase a card.

The Boone County Arts Council thanked Candlewick for sponsoring the July 17th concert this year by the "Pirates over 40."

It had been suggested we set up a standing protocol regarding what events, meetings , and programs would be allowed to be open to the public. It is too complex and needs to be handled on a case by case basis.

Be sure to watch for official minutes printed in your Candlewick Paper.

Down to the wire

As you all know, tomorrow (Tuesday) is election day. This year it is more than just the elected officials in the primary. You will be voting on the tax issue from North Boone Fire Protection district. It is a yes or no vote. Think hard before voting. This will affect us all from here on out so choose wisely.
Ken

Hey Buddy, can you spare $2,500.00?

That will be the cost if we do not get the necessary proxies before the annual meeting. It will come straight from your dues.
Here is the sad part, those of you reading this already care enough about Candlewick to either come to the meeting or you have turned in proxies so I am preaching to the choir. Thank you for caring.

Algae, etc.

Some algae has been forming in the "dip" and Fisherman's Cove. It is being sprayed as well as the ditch across from the "dip" to try to get ahead of the game. The skimmer will be out if and when it accumulates.
Last year it started so early and this year it is even earlier due to the warm winter. Every effort will be made to stay ahead of the game. Remember though, we must not get so close to the bank that we hit retaining rocks or it will ruin the belt on the skimmer and it will be out of service.

Ballot counting was today (Saturday) and guess what! All the candidates won. WOW

The bottom line

I attended the meeting about the tax referendum for the North Boone Fire Protection District Thursday evening. I posted earlier my only concern was (and is) who can respond more quickly in an emergency.
If the referendum passes North Boone will become the primary ambulance provider and if you call 911 they will be sent from Poplar Grove if they are available. The Capron Rescue Squad here in Candlewick will not be sent.
Take from that what you will.

My one consideration

Candlewick Association is staying neutral on the issue of the North Boone tax referendum and Capron Rescue Squad fighting the tax increase.
My personal perspective is I am sure both will be equipped with well trained personnel with good equipment. I will vote for whomever is capable of insuring the best response time for the residents of Candlewick Lake. That is it, nothing else matters to me. The rest is background noise.

A submission from Chief Tony Stepansky

Sir:

Would you be so kind as to share with the CWL Community

On Sunday March 13th from 2-4 P.M at the Candlewick Lake Recreation Center Capron Rescue will be hosting a public meeting to share with the community the capabilities of the Squad. You will have the opportunity to meet the trustees and medical personnel of the squad. Also representatives from Mercy Rockford will be here to share the sweeping changes coming to EMS in Northern Boone County.

Please join us and learn more about your Rescue Squad.

Thank You.

Ambulance wars continue

As the battle between North Boone Fire Department and Capron Rescue Squad continues there are now two meetings scheduled in our Rec Center so both sides can present their arguments.

North Boone Fire Department wants a yes vote for a real estate tax increase to fund their ambulance service. The Capron Rescue Squad contends there is already efficient and adequate coverage for the area so the tax increase is unnecessary and they want a no vote. The Capron Rescue Squad has a staffed building here in Candlewick.

North Boone has their meeting scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 10th.
Capron Rescue Squad has their meeting scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, March 13th
Both are at the Rec Center.
Voting will be March 15th.

Candlewick has a relationship with both parties and must stay neutral on the matter. It is very important you attend these meetings to decide which way you wish to vote. I intend to be at both meetings to listen, not speak. I do hope to hear specifically how either vote will affect Candlewick's service times. I truly hope to see you there. Let's fill the Rec Center.

Turns you stomach, doesn't it....

The flag created by New York kindergarten kids. Think about this for a minute. Does anyone really believe this was not actually pushed and facilitated by their teacher? Kids did not plan and execute this.  Disgusting.

This must stop!

It seems each week our Public Safety report contains warnings to people about loose or barking dogs. A couple of days ago my Grand Daughter was running on Candlewick Drive passing the stop sign near Drury by the little inlet after the Rec Center when a German Shepard was on her heels barking and growling. The dog was running loose. Luckily it did not bite her but it scared her and followed her. I am not one to sue but I will tell you this, had she been harmed I would have personally sued for damages on her behalf and the owner would have faced the consequences. Our kids as well as adults deserve the right to run or walk freely without fear of dog attacks.
Ken

Still at the helm

Even though he will not be on the Board of Directors, Chuck Corso stated he will still head the Candlewick Community Clean-up Day as he has in the past. Sign up sheets are now out at the office and Rec Center so you can sign up for the streets or areas you wish to clean.
The dates will be April 30 with a rain date of May 1 so please plan ahead to help with this great cause. Every year a large number of trash bags are filled and Candlewick looks so much nicer afterward. Thank you to all who choose to help improve our community.

Kind of "left in a pickle"

From Breitbart... it continues and grows!

GOP presidential front runner Donald Trump’s vow to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border seems to be spurring more illegal immigration in recent months, according to Reuters.

The news agency says there has been an increase in illegal immigration at the southern border as migrants seek to make it into the United States illegally before Trump gets into office and it is too late.
“They think they need to take advantage while they can,” Blanca Rivera, a manager of the Ciudad Juarez migrant shelter, told Reuters. Rivera noted that she has seen the recent increase in northward migration.
According to Reuters, between October and February Customs and Border Patrol apprehended 150,304 people attempting to illegally enter the U.S. via the southern border, about 24 percent more than the same time frame last year. Additionally, the number of unaccompanied minors detained illegally entering the U.S. from October to January — 20,455 — is up by over 100 percent compared to those same months last year.
