How much we have changed

I remember so well in my early days working in retail supermarkets what happened on Good Friday. The vast majority of stores if not all closed for three hours in the afternoon so everyone could go to worship during that time. Those days have now passed along with stores being closed on Sundays, which was also commonplace back then.
Payless Foods opened in Rockford on State Street west of Alpine. That store was open Sundays and it spread through the other stores in order to remain competitive.
Like so many aspects of life, these were times and attitudes that are gone forever. Too bad.
Some of us still remember the meaning of Good Friday.
