The lake grant meeting

Approximately 25 people attended the meeting that was held to review where we stand on the implementation process and plans for possible program expansion in coming years. We are allowed to deduct $22.50 per hour for each person who attends these type meetings or volunteers for grant work. Consider this, the meeting was about an hour long so Thursday evening that one hour saved over $560.00 of your dues money that we would have to pay toward the $35,200 that we owe the government toward the total grant of $88,000. Every meeting adds up!
As I have mentioned here before, the first phase will be bio-swales to halt the rapid run-off of rainwater before it enters the lake from our watershed. This phase is expected to be completed in 2015 and hopefully by that time we will be working on plans for the next phase of our program. We are looking at 10,000 square feet of swale implementation in phase one for containment of a good percentage of nitrogen, phosphorus, suspended solids (sediment), oils, and bacteria. Eight areas have been designated as priority points for this application. Possibly not all can be covered in 2015 but they will be prioritized. Part of the plan also encompasses three years of maintenance of the areas to assure the plug plantings take well. Take a look at the Firefly Bay planting to get an idea of what the plantings will look like but they will be in ditches that take the brunt of runoff.
This is a very brief synopsis of the meeting but I am sure your Candlewick Paper will have a much more extensive story. You have here just the meat & potatoes version.
