Have you ever wondered?

Each year we stock fish in our lake to keep it a premier fishing lake. After last Saturday's stocking of 2200 Cat and 3300 Walleye (plus the free ones) I got to thinking about the numbers. For the sake of argument let's say 80% survive to grow out of the stocking, which should be a low number considering the size of the fish stocked. That means over 2,600 Walleye and almost 1800 Cat should grow to keepable size.
Fran and I fish a lot for cat and when we catch them almost without exception they are five to thirteen pound monsters. Why do we almost never catch the two pound eating size? I can go to Pierce Lake or Bauman and catch plenty in the good eating size range but not here. Why? Now consider the Walleye that are stocked each year. From this year's stocking there should be enough Walleye to make them an easy catch and this is cumulative from prior years as well. Sure, all of us catch some Walleye but are 2,500 of them taken each year to keep the population stagnant? Nope. Our lake should be full of Walleye. We don't see them floating all over the surface dead nor do we see that with Cat. I don't get it.

TOWN HALL MEETING

On October 7, 2013 a copy of the proposed revised Bylaws, as well as a copy of our current Bylaws were sent out to all property owners along with a ballot and a chart to make it easy to identify a topic or issue in both the proposed revised Bylaws, as well as the current Bylaws.

A Special Town Hall meeting has been scheduled for Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the Recreation Center with the Association’s Legal Counsel in order to provide you an opportunity to ask any questions you may have regarding the proposed revisions.

Great idea guys!

solar goose flasher
You may remember we bought some of the flashers to drive away geese from areas during the summer. They were being stored for the winter when Tom Pinkowski Sr. and Jim Brefeld had a great idea. Why not mount one on the cement spillway to deter the geese from congregating in the open water area by the dam over the winter, thus preventing the pollution the geese leave from getting into our lake.
They mounted one there Monday and I can see it flashing when I look toward that area from our front windows. Nice job protecting our lake.

A prayer for Francine's son

Francine (fourth from the left in front) with her staff
Francine is the owner of the Eagle's Nest Cafe' in the Rec Center. I am told her son Bobby was involved in a car/semi crash and is in intensive care with severe injuries in a Rockford hospital. Francine is a very nice lady with many friends here and I am sure she would appreciate your prayers for her son's speedy recovery. Both he and Francine will be in my prayers.

A Sunday smile

A teacher asked the children in her Sunday School class, "If I sold my house and my car, had a big garage sale and gave all my money to the church, would I get into heaven?"

"NO!" the children all answered.

If I cleaned the church every day, mowed the yard, and kept everything neat and tidy, would I get into heaven?"

Again, the answer was "NO!"

"Well," she continued, "then how can I get to heaven?"
In the back of the room, a five-year-old boy shouted out, "You gotta be dead!"

Early morning fish delivery

Saturday the 26th about 6:45 I pulled into the rec center parking lot by the launch. Some of the guys were already there as was the delivery truck full of our fish. We ordered 3300 Walleye and 2200 Channel cat as was decided after the last fish shocking survey. The hatchery threw in an extra 50 Cat and 75 Walleyes to cover any that didn't survive the trip. The fish looked very healthy. The Walleye were in the six to eight inch range and the Cat were eight to ten inches so survivability should be strong. Be sure to notice the albino Cat in one of the pictures. He is out there in our lake now also.
As you can see from the pictures, it was dark when the procedure started. Jim Brefeld, Tom Pinkowski Sr., Lee Odom, and Bob McHoes were there for the wet and cold job. The best description of the morning was blustery. After that it was on to the leaf drop off duties for most of them so these guys keep busy. Being the wimp I am I stayed dry and took pictures.

Unsustainable, and we all know it!

Dawson Lake Road repairs

Steve Rapp (Village President of Timberlane) has sent out a notice there will be road work on Dawson Lake Road next week. The plan is to have the road open evenings and nights but we all know how this can change with construction so it would be wise to avoid using the South gate at least through Wednesday next week. Our South gate will be locked down part of the week. The actual days of repair will I am sure depend upon weather conditions.
Dawson Lake Road has had a lot of usage since Orth Road is closed due to the bridge being out so it needs a lot of work even from a safety aspect. Be forewarned to save yourself time.
