The alum treatment and lake safety

There has been concern expressed by some residents regarding the safety of our lake due to it's closure during the alum treatment. The lake was not closed as a safety precaution, but in order to have the best result possible improvement in water clarity considering the fact we are spending around $272,000 of your money including the testing phase. We want the alum application to drop exactly where it is applied and boats churning the water would not help that process. A GPS system is being used to make sure all possible areas are covered so why take the chance of disrupting the coverage? It is a short term inconvenience that will improve your lake.
Meetings were held discussing safety along with many other questions about alum treatments. This is nothing new in water clarification as you will see from the clip pasted next.....

Potable water in the clip means drinking water. This will not harm people, animals, or wildlife. I asked the question during one of the meetings about what affect it would have if the fish were spawning. It will not even hurt fish eggs waiting to hatch. Shore fishing is fine. As far as eating the fish, I have heard nothing to say that is a problem but personally during the treatment I am not going to keep any because they are breathing the floc (technical term for the settling application.)
In summary, it will not hurt you and the water quality will be shockingly better this year and should remain better for some years. Relax and enjoy your "new lake" when this is over in a couple more days.
The following are a couple more explanatory clips from a Q & A on a different lake, we chose more closure but you get the point....
