This evening, nine new ducklings were on our lawn near the lake trying unsuccessfully to cross the wall to return with their mama back to the lake.  I gently urged them to where they could do so, which they did, followed by honks of joy from mom and dad as they swam away.

(At least they aren't geese).

Week Ending 5/11/2014

Rescue Calls

Public Safety responded to the 100 block of Brandywine for a subject unresponsive. The subject was transported for treatment.

Public Safety responded to the 200 block of Candlewick Blvd. for a female subject who was disoriented. A rescue unit was summoned and the subject was transported for treatment.

Public Safety responded to the 200 block of Candlewick Blvd. for a report of a subject with stomach pains. The subject was transported for treatment.

Attempt to Locate

Public Safety responded to 200 block of Pembroke for a report of a missing 3 year old. The child was located by Public Safety in a neighboring vacant house.

Damaged Property

Public Safety responded to the 1900 block of Candlewick Dr. for a report of damaged mailboxes. An offender was not located.

Domestic Disputes

Public Safety responded to the 100 block of London for a report of a domestic dispute. Public Safety assisted until the Boone County Sheriff’s Office arrived.

My apologies

 My family health situation continues to worsen. I am going to post only the things that need to be announced and skip a lot of my frivolous stuff. I am more than a little preoccupied currently. Thank you for your readership. I will do my best.

How is the AQUA line project coming?

Last June

 The latest I have heard is the testing and sealing project is coming along well and there have been some pretty substantial exterior inflow issues found as well as some homes that have been pumping their sump pumps to the sewer lines. The issues are being fixed as they are found so hopefully we will not face the same situation we did last June with the excessively heavy rainfall. At least the problem is being addressed. The work continues and thank the Lord we have had no overly heavy rainfall so far this year.

Gifts April gave us the day before she left for admission

Several people have asked me how our Granddaughter, April, is doing. This is a tough road for her. Her condition didn't develop over night and it takes time to overcome it. The minimum stay in recovery is six months and some stay longer depending upon progress. We talk with her every Saturday and her voice seems stronger but she is still broken. It has been around six weeks since she entered and she is eating better. One part of the contract was she had to agree to nutritionalist recommendations and eat accordingly. They are asked not to discuss food with family and friends but it is a good balanced diet that has to be helping her. I think the reason for not discussing it is eating is not supposed to be part of a normal person's conversation unless it is an extraordinary event. It is simply something we all do and that is how they need to view it. After eating their plates are checked and they are asked to stay in a common area for at least an hour after eating. This is a good Christian program with high success rates so we are of course encouraged. Your kind words and prayers are appreciated as always. Every family has some serious bumps in the road and this happens to be one of ours.

PLEASE NOTE: A Belvidere/Boone County Food Pantry truck will be located at the Recreation Center on Friday through Sunday, May 16th-18^th, for any donations you may have to contribute. They are looking for clothes and household items in particular, but will accept anything in good, working, useable condition. Also, the Bulk Garbage Pick-Up is scheduled for Thursday, May 22nd.

One more reason we need Public Safety

The picture (provided by Barb Appelhans) is another example of the good works our Public Safety department provides. Have you ever been out on the lake boating or fishing and your boat motor decided not to cooperate? I have watched before as our boat patrol has helped a stranded boater. This boat was towed to shore safely. We appreciate their service.

Week Ending 05/05/2014

Rescue Calls

Public Safety responded to a report of a structure fire on the 10 block of King Henry. The fire was extinguished with no injuries.

Neighbor Disputes

Public Safety responded to the 100 block of Columbia for a report of a neighbor dispute. Public Safety issued a warning for kicking a soccer ball against another’s residence.

Public Safety responded to the 200 block of Candlewick Blvd. for a report of a neighbor dispute. Public Safety determined a resident did not like having a neighbor ride an atv on their own property. Public Safety advised that there was no violation for the complaint.

Public Safety responded to the 200 block of Carthage for a report of a neighbor dispute. It was determined there was an issue between two children riding on a school bus and both parents were advised to notify the school district.

Public Safety responded to the 100 block of Pembroke for a report of subjects arguing about a theft of jewelry three years ago. The matter was resolved by Public Safety.

Public Safety responded to the 200 block of New Forest for a report of a subject yelling threats and throwing fireworks at subject cutting through his property. The subject was warned of his actions.

Public Safety responded to the 100 block of Liverpool for a report of neighbors arguing. Upon arrival the matter was resolved.

Damaged Property

Public Safety responded to the 700 block of Marquette for a report of a damaged yard by a vehicle. A neighboring resident was warned for a parking issue.

Found Property

Public Safety responded to the 700 block of Marquette for a found bicycle.

I will remind you when it is closer

Will this be a hot topic? I really don't know, but for myself this is a no-brainer and I would think it would be for anyone who has walked through all the geese droppings or realized how much their feces harms our lake. Chickens are processed every day and few people don't eat chicken. I just don't see a problem here. The following article is from our May paper.

I should have taken a picture

I walked out on my pier to take a few casts Sunday about two and the water was so clear I could see the bottom past the end of my pier and that is about five feet deep. I lost a screwdriver when putting in the pier this year. I could see it on the bottom and retrieved it with a magnet. That is how clear it was.
I don't know if it is the alum treatment or what but it is beautiful. Later in the year I know it will cloud but for now it is the picture of a gin clear lake.

35 addled eggs Saturday

Jim Brefeld reports 35 goose eggs were addled last Saturday. Less than last time but still a substantial number. Jim also wants everyone to know next Saturday the addling will start at 11 a.m. instead of the normal 9 and volunteers are always needed. More volunteers means less work for everyone.

Your Sunday Smile (I think I have heard this one)

The pile of rocks by the dam

What you are seeing is rip-rap. Every year we budget a certain amount to purchase the rip-rap then our maintenance crew labor is used to get the rock into position. It is used to replace the rock that is thrown into the lake by individuals or pulled in by ice action. Expensive, but we must maintain our shoreline and dam. If you see someone throwing in sizable rocks be sure to remind them the cost of replacement is coming out of your dues.
