Week Ending 5/11/2015

Rescue Calls

Public Safety responded to four (4) medical calls this past week. Three (3) residents were transported to the hospital. Public Safety also responded to a lift assist.

Fire Alarm

Public Safety responded to a call of a fire alarm at the Rec Center. The Fire Department did respond for a false alarm.

Welfare Check

Public Safety assisted a disoriented subject at the East Gate. It was found this person belonged in Rockford.

Damage to Property

The Public Safety Department responded to a residence on Candlewick Blvd. for a glass door that had just been broken. Juveniles were heard laughing while running from the area. A search could not locate any suspects. Please notify Public Safety or the BCSO if you have information about this incident.

BB Gun Damage

Public Safety responded to the 100 blk. of Queens Place for two (2) residences which had suffered damage to a vehicle and a garage, due to having been shot with a BB gun. These incidents are difficult to solve, therefore we are asking for your assistance.

BB guns are not allowed in CWL. If you observe anyone wielding a BB gun, especially in this area of our community, please summon Public Safety so we may follow up our investigations.

Barking/Loose Dogs

Public Safety responded to six (6) calls of a loose or barking dog this past week. Warning notices and a citation were issued.

Garage Sale Weekend

Our semi-annual garage sale weekend is coming up this week. Please use extra caution due to the many visitors and pedestrians using our roadways. Slow down and drive safe.

Lake biologist response to algae inquiry

When he sees it Tuesday hopefully he can come up with a further solution. This is one bad year for algae. Now we have clear water but that helps algae growth. This is a no win.

I am aware of the green algae growth this year. The water is so clear and the algae is growing in very deep water.  The Maint Dept has been applying chemical.  Based on their comments to me, the chemicals have been working.  I will be on-site tomorrow before our meeting to take a look myself.

Day after thoughts on Mother's day

It is really the little things that matter. Of course our Mom (and Dad) shelter us, clothe us, feed us, and do all the other things that are expected but in thinking about this today a memory popped back from right after Dad passed away and we were cleaning out his things. The kids also remember what a Mom does for others.
 It bothered Mom to see the lines on his calves left by the ribbing in his sox when Dad took them off and the marks stayed for a long time. When I came to the sox I noticed she had taken scissors and made a small snip at the top of each sock between every rib to make them less tight on his legs. She never made mention of this but it is an example of what Moms (and wives ) do every day that is never really noticed. Well, I noticed and it meant something to me.
 Mom will never read this. She is currently in Saint Annes in Rockford after a fall and dizziness. She was transferred there from Swedish American Hospital. She is in the prayers of our family and I hope some of you join in. 
 As she is now in the December of her life, thanks Mom........... for everything.

Something new at Candlewick!

Pickleball is a fun sport that combines many elements of tennis, badminton, and ping pong.  It is played indoors or outdoors on a badminton sized court.  It is played with paddles and a whiffle ball...2 players on each team.

We will be meeting at the gym at the rec center on Thursday, 5/14, at 1:00.  We have an indoor court set up and will provide paddles and balls.

Come and learn this new fun game!

And the new Rescue Squad facility begins to rise from the earth like the Phoenix from the ashes.

Angry birds!

It looks like they are gaining on it. Jim Brefeld tells me the first week of egg addling they found a total of 48 goose eggs and about a dozen volunteers showed up to help. The volunteers have trickled down and so have the eggs. The last count was 24 eggs in five nests. Jim said this Friday will be the last day for the year and they will be disposing of all the addled eggs that remain. 
 As usual, a great job by the volunteers and thanks to Jim for keeping me (and you) in the loop.

Watershed Grant Bioswale Planting

Volunteers Needed!

The next phase of this project is underway and volunteers are needed. If anyone can assist with the planting, which is a large part of the watershed grant CWL received to improve the quality of the lake and beautify our community, then just grab your gardening/work gloves and join us on Saturday, May 9th at 8:00am at the Recreation Center. This is the first day of planting. Come and help as long as your schedule allows. Even if you just want to see the other volunteers in action, come out and watch. Why not make it a family project. We had kids as young as seven assist with the Firefly Bay plantings a couple of years ago.

Please note that the planting will take place rain or shine!

CWL is credited approximately $22.50 per volunteer hour. Also, this is a federal grant that is administered through the Illinois EPA so the funding is more secure and not subject to any of the state cuts.

Loud Music

Public Safety responded to a call of loud music at a residence. A warning notice was issued. If this incident occurs again, a citation may be issued.

Welfare Check

Public Safety responded to a residence located in the 100 block of Lamplighter Loop for a welfare check of a resident walking in the middle of the road. Upon arrival, Public Safety assisted the resident to their home.

Mowing

The Public Safety Department has already issued almost a dozen warnings for mowing/grass too long. Please enjoy these beautiful days by spending a few hours caring for your lawns.

Real Estate taxable value remained the same.... tax due up by $167.00. If only my businesses could have been run this way. Want more money, just raise your price and your customers are not allowed to shop elsewhere.

I had to bow out of the one

 The annual clean-up day is today with beautiful weather. I had planned to help as usual until I went to the doctor yesterday about my bad knee. It is now bone on bone. I was given a cortesone shot and told to use it as little as possible for five days. So much for the clean-up. If that wasn't enough I got a call early this morning telling me my Mom was being taken by ambulance to Swedes due to dizziness so bad she couldn't even sit up. That is where I spent the morning. They have not found a cause but her B.P. is through the roof and she fell backward and hit her head a couple days ago. Not my best Saturday. I am sure everyone else did a great job as usual. Sorry I had to bail.
