Thursday evening between seven and eight I came in through the west gate. I drove in on the inside lane, stopped, and proceeded only to hear the lady in the guardhouse yell out the window to me. I backed up and she said "What are you doing?" Still not thinking what I had done I said "Going through the gate." She was all over me like an oversized suit. Of course one does not just stop and proceed through the inside lane. I knew that but didn't think and treated it like a sensor gate. She checked out my name and address then allowed me to proceed.
Am I angry? Heck no! She was doing her job and doing it well. I appreciate her determination to not let anyone through the gate that didn't belong here. Nice work.

Just a thought...
No one asked me to post this suggestion but I think it would be nice for some of us who really are not "party people" to make the donation to the fundraiser even though we are not attending. This is a good family that has had some recent misfortunes. Fran and I plan to make the donation even though we are not attending and I hope many of you consider the same. Any of us could be next to be in the same situation.

Did you notice this story?
By S.A. Miller - The Washington Times - Tuesday, September 9, 2014
Welfare recipients can’t use their EBT cards at liquor stores but they can at marijuana dispensaries in states such as Colorado that have legalized pot, Sen. Jeff Sessions revealed Tuesday.
The Alabama Republican announced that he was drafting legislation to close the welfare-for-weed loophole after the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services confirmed to him that marijuana shops were not off limits to EBT cards, which replaced food stamps, or other federal benefits.

Do you follow the flag meanings?
You will start seeing the flags next summer for a good indication of algae conditions in our lake and suggested actions. A good plan that had been adopted by Westlake Village west of Rockford.
Grey flag means low concern of acute health effects
Yellow flag means moderate concern and swimming should be limited.
Red flag means there is high concern of acute health effects and swimming should be prohibited as well as other water contact activities.
Black flag means a very high concern of acute health effects and the lake should be closed to all activities.

Another school district drops off
CHICAGO – Hummus is too fatty, pretzels are too salty. Even hard-boiled eggs and yogurt don’t make the cut.
Those restrictions and others imposed on schools through the revamped “healthier” National School Lunch Program convinced officials in Illinois’ second largest school district to forfeit nearly $1 million in federal lunch aid to serve students food they want to eat, rather than what the government tells them to, CBS reports.
“So far so good. The meals, as you’ve seen, look fantastic, and there’s a lot of excitement,” District 214 Associate Superintendent Cathy Johnson told the news station as officials recently unveiled their new menu.
The federal “healthier” school lunch overhaul, championed by First Lady Michelle Obama, has been a boondoggle for public schools across the country. The tightened restrictions, intended to combat childhood obesity, have driven more than 1 million students away from school lunches and created over $1 billion per year in food waste since they were implemented in 2012.
The drastic drop-off in lunch sales is prompting an increasing number of school districts to ditch the regulations and attached federal funding to save their floundering cafeteria programs. Just this week, two other New York school districts dropped out.
District 214 administrators told CBS the unreasonable restrictions on protein, sodium and fat made preparing meals students would buy nearly impossible, while the district-inspired menu “would be far simpler,” according to Johnson.
Crispy falafel with flatbread and rice pilaf, and pasta primavera with roasted vegetables and olive oil – two new menu items in District 214’s lineup – would have violated the federal regulations because of low protein content, for example.
“What would happen is the sales simply wouldn’t be there, and the offerings that we would currently have wouldn’t be available,” Johnson told CBS.

Odd, I have not heard this on the news...
Islamist militias in Libya took control of nearly a dozen commercial jetliners last month, and western intelligence agencies recently issued a warning that the jets could be used in terrorist attacks across North Africa.
Intelligence reports of the stolen jetliners were distributed within the U.S. government over the past two weeks and included a warning that one or more of the aircraft could be used in an attack later this month on the date marking the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks against New York and Washington, said U.S. officials familiar with the reports.
“There are a number of commercial airliners in Libya that are missing,” said one official. “We found out on September 11 what can happen with hijacked planes.”
The official said the aircraft are a serious counterterrorism concern because reports of terrorist control over the Libyan airliners come three weeks before the 13th anniversary of 9/11 attacks and the second anniversary of the Libyan terrorist attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi.
