What is wrong with our electronic message boards?

Many of you if not all have noticed our message boards at our entrances have dead spots in the displays, meaning parts of messages are missing. This is being handled but there is a problem getting the necessary parts. The board has square sections of LEDs and when one burns out you get missing letters or words. The sections are under warranty and will be repaired as soon as parts are available.

Tuesday's board workshop agenda

This workshop will be after a very short board special meeting at 6 p.m. to discuss and hopefully pass a resolution to outsource crack filling for our roads this year. The following budget meeting is one of the early steps in our budgeting process to go over department expenditure requests for the upcoming fiscal year and weed out items as necessary.

Your Sunday consideration. Negativity is a poison that ruins people's lives.

Negativity is a pessimistic attitude. Someone who has a negative attitude leads a negative life. When someone has a negative approach towards life, he cannot view the brighter aspect of things. A negative person is characterized by habitual skepticism a disagreeable tendency to oppose or deny or resist commands and suggestions. Negativity kills hopes, aspirations, the desire to make things better and move on. When an adversity strikes, a negative person easily gives in and becomes hopeless instead of rising to the occasion and facing it valiantly.

Negativity should be replaced with an optimistic attitude. Optimists always stay strong even when the going gets tough. Negativity and a negative attitude towards life will poison your life and you will never be able to attain your goals and realize them. A positive attitude is the key to success in life. Life's battles are mostly fought in the mind. If the mind stays cool, positive and focused under all circumstances, it can resist all kinds of negativity and move forward.

This well thing is taking forever. Here is the latest...

Aqua Well Rehabilitation Update
As you are all aware, Aqua started the rehabilitation of Well No. 2 on July 8, 2014. Well No. 1 has been supplying the water for our community during this rehabilitation.
The rehabilitation work was completed on August 8, 2014. Before Well #2 can be put back into service and supply water to our community, there must be two consecutive clean bacteriological samples taken 24 hours apart.
Aqua has continued flushing and treating the well, but has yet to have two consecutive samples come back with a “0” result.
The latest update that we have received on September 23, 2014 from Aqua stated that they had used a product over the weekend that was recommended by the IEPA. Aqua flushed and took samples on Monday, results on Tuesday were that the samples failed. They flushed again on Tuesday, September 23, 2014, those results are still unknown to us at this time. Aqua indicated that they plan on speciating the samples to determine the type of bacteria that is found in the well.
If you have concerns about the quality of your water, you can have it tested at the Boone County Department of Public Health. They can give you water bottles and directions on how to collect the sample. There is a fee for this testing, depending on what type of test you want.
Until Well No. 2 is back in service, you may continue to notice a discoloration in your water. Water from Well No. 1 does not go through the Iron Treatment plant. It is recommended to run your water more frequently to flush your lines.

Well this is just SHOCKING!

Barb Appelhans sent these pictures of Thursday's fish shocking. The boat extensions send an electric current through the water temporarily stunning the fish so they can be netted and counted as well as checked for health. Then information collected will be used to evaluate quantities and species of fish we need to stock this fall to keep our lake a top fishery. You can also see some of the submerged weed growth clusters. Joe Rush, our lake biologist, was aided in the lead boat by Jim Brefeld. The trailer boat was manned by Tom Pinkowski sr., Barb, and I am not sure of the other volunteer.

Karl wants you to know

Even though the health department water tests came back satisfactory for his home he still refuses to drink the water due to the chlorine smell. He said he tried yesterday and spat it out it was so strong.

Karl wants you to know

Karl Steiskal was one of the folks who was very concerned about the safety of our water supply. He was concerned enough to personally pay for testing at the Boone County Health Department. He had noticed discoloration and a chlorine odor.
Karl called me yesterday evening because he wanted me to let everyone know the test results have come back and all tests show the water is satisfactory. This gave him peace of mind and he hopes it will also calm the fears of others who have shown concern.
Karl deserves our thanks for taking it upon himself to find the truth rather than just complaining.
Later today I intend to obtain a copy of the test results and post it here at Karl's request for all to see.

So... how's she doin' ?

Quite a few people have asked me about our Granddaughter April, who is in treatment for anorexia and depression as I have documented here. As you may recall, she went into in-treatment April 1 of this year after being hospitalized locally due to the affects anorexia was having on her body. It was to be a six month treatment but she will be staying at least until some time in November. She is progressing well and sounds a lot like her old self now but she still has a little to go so they are keeping her longer than planned to be sure she is ready to leave.
She told me recently during a weekly phone conversation she is humbled and so thankful for all the support and prayers some from people she hardly knows. She needs to feel she has worth and is loved and many have provided that. Her family very much appreciates that kindness.
We hope to have her home soon back to the old April we remember but we also want her to remain in treatment until she is completely stable. When she comes back she says she wants to live with her Dad, who many of you know is ill. She is a wonderful, caring young lady.
